Whale watching on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula

Whale Watching in Iceland

Whales come to feed off Olafasvik and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula off Iceland’s west coast during the summer months. North Atlantic whales like humpbacks, but mostly blue whales come visiting in the summer but the usual inhabitants are minkes, sperm whales, orcas, basking sharks and dolphins. During the main season larger animals are spotted closer in to the land and in recent years the number of sperm whale and blue whale sightings has increased as water temperatures change. The glacial backdrop is also spectacular, especially on a lovely bright day and makes for pleasant views while you wait for a fin.

Unfortunately the whale watching from Olafsvik has been canceled.

Seatours still offers a fantastic bird and nature watching tour from Stykkisholmur http://seatours.is/Frontpage/Ourtours/UniqueAdventureTour/

For whale watching we recommend Eldingrom Reykjavik) and Northsailing (from Husavik).

Hope this helps!

all the very best from Iceland,

About us

Stuck at your desk? Gazing out at those grey skies and imagining you are somewhere else?

I want to go here is all about inspiring you to do something different - about encouraging you to check out a new experience or destination. It's simple - we post something new every day. If you like the look of it, send it to a couple of friends. If not, wait and see what tomorrow brings. And if it gets past the fantasy stage, we'll soon have links to research the experience further, but you can also send us an email, and we'll tell you where to look or book next.
