Triple Rock Church (Blues Brothers)

Triple Rock Church (Blues Brothers)

Film Locations in Chicago, United States

Blues Brothers (Dir: John Landis, 1980).

Pilgrim Baptist Church, 3235 East 91st St, Chicago, Illinois, USA.

The Pilgrim Baptist Church, or the Triple Rock Church as it’s called in the 'Blues Brothers', has pedigree as a legendary blues and gospel spot, in the 30’s the congregations musical director supported the careers of some of the early gospel legends (including Aretha Franklin who appears in the film singing her hit ‘Think’.).

The Triple Rock Church is where James Brown (playing a preacher) sings ‘The Old Landmark’ and Jake is caught up in the frenzy of the vigorous gospel mass (parishioners are flipping and somersaulting in the isles and off the balcony!) and has a visit from God who tells him with a beam of light to reform the band.

The crew supposedly filmed the Triple Rock scene over the course of a week and paid extras $50 a day to sit in the pews and sing along. The film version is only slightly more excitable than what happen at the Pilgrim Baptist Church ever Sunday so go and re-live one of few repeatable scenes in the Blues Brothers.

Other real Chicago locations used in Blues Brothers include the hair salon, Curl Up and Dye (real name!), 2837 North Clark St, Lyon’s Delicatessen, 807 W. Maxwell St, which was the Soul Food Restaurant where Aretha sings ‘Think’ and Wrigley Field, 1060 West Addison St. which was the Blues Brothers’ Official Address.
